Scam Alert!

Last week a friend told me about a spa that she went to called Estebel, and today she called considering that I would be the perfect person to go there (I wonder why ...). My brain ticks because of the word Estebel, I thought I heard of it before and when I ask her what's the company name she told me DCHL. Then it triggers me way back in my university years, the part where I can never forget in my life still where friend is no longer a friend :( .
It happens around my 2nd year at MMU (yup I'm a proud MMU-ians ^_^), where my roomates which is my best friend at the time ask me to join her to an event. I don't remember if I asked her what's the event is about but it sounds posh so I went. When I arrived there's like a lot of people most of them looks damn rich, I was like "what the heck I am doing here!!". I just follow her into the building and there we sit. She told me that we have to wait for her friends and while waiting she told me briefly about the product and people whom got rich from the group. She told me that by joining this group of business I can be rich within my graduation time. Imagine that! And being the fool I was, looking at the young and rich people there I just can't deny the proof that is in front of my eyes. When her friend came they brag a lot more, on how easy the business is by just introducing (recruit another friend or people like my friend did. I was a bit reluctant there, then they gave me a tour around the building and met with the Duke and Marquis which is the top leader or rank in their business. After that, we went to see the product; Lampe Berger (now known as Estebel) which is a line of beauty and personal care products ranging around more than thousands of ringgit. I was bewitched and join the group by investing around RM4k++, it was a lot of money at the time for a student like me.
Cut the story short, I felt something wrong when I joined ... why? I don't feel that I can ask other people or friends to join me so that I can get rich quickly by using their money! I don't have the guts to tell them that they can be rich too, just find another person to be fool! I don't know if there's even a person who would buy the product and benefit from it. Honestly, I felt cheated that's why I can't imagined to asked others to join. The products is no used to me and most important of all I lost a friend. I felt cheated and a lot of hate towards my friend. Looking back now, I forgive her it was my fault too to jump in without making any homework. Lesson well learned and I take it as one of those things in life that could benefit others and myself.
Never in my mind that I thought I would come across this company again. But then life is like wheel, it'll always comes back at you. My friend told me to join her event this 2nd May at Eco Bar and I declined. I wish I could tell her my story, but I don't know how. She is a friend that I don't want to lose.

Lampe Berger is not so hot now in the neighbouring countries but there are still new victims every month in Malaysia . Must thanks to those who have contributed and kept the thread alive here in Kopitiam. Bel-Air have closed in Malaysia .. LB is almost zero in Singapore . This perfumery product from France with over 100 years history is just bottles and fragrance (check the factory’s website) but the Company marketing them in Asia claimed “aromatheraphy” products.
Hong Kong TVB aired a program that exposed their scam but their members claimed that HK’s TVB already apologised to them. Note that the biggest strenght in a MLM Scam is their members will go all way out to lie in order to defend for their Company. The reason is simple; these members fear that they will not be able to make their money back if the Company collapsed. Knowing that the Lampe Berger products are moving slow, they add a line of skincare products named Estebel, also claime to have over 100 years history
in France. (Hardly anymore Chinese newcomers, they are now tapping the Malays in Malaysia.)

My intention here is not to condemn the product or the company, but the way it was marketed. Why I wrote about this is to prevent others not to fall into such lies as I did previously. This story is a reminder to everybody out there, that there is no such thing as easy money. You have to work, make an effort to get whatever you want!

P.S: There's a difference between MLM(multi-level-marketing or network marketing) and pyramid scheme, I will write about this based on my understanding and experience later
